Arms and armour for non-specialists

A guided visit around the galleries and behind-the-scenes with an introduction to th main types of arms and armour. There will be time to see a new exhibition 'The Chronicles of Froissart' with the curator.

Wednesday 16 April
Visit to English Heritage's Collections Resource Centre
Fort Brockhurst, Gosport
A chance to see the Resource Centre, hear how it was set up and how it is run.

Wednesday 14 May
Roman pottery
Piddington Roman Villa, Northamptonshire
An opportunity to learn about the form, fabric and decoration of pottery, with a chance to handle and look at examples.

June
Roman small finds
National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh
A general introduction to Roman small finds, including copper alloy, iron, glass, stone, bone and pottery with an emphasis on finds from the frontier but of broader relevance.

July
Clay tobacco pipes
Exeter
An introduction to the identification and dating of clay tobacco pipes with a chance to see examples from the U.K. and Europe.
